Homemade Ghee – The Golden Nectar of Ayurveda
Homemade Ghee Recipe

In Ayurveda, ghee (clarified butter) is considered one of the most sacred and healing foods. It nourishes the body, supports digestion, lubricates the joints, calms the mind, and strengthens immunity. Known as “liquid gold”, ghee enhances the absorption of herbs and nutrients and is suitable for all three doshas — especially beneficial for Vata and Pitta types.

While you can find ghee in natural food stores or Asian supermarkets, there’s truly nothing more delicious or energetically pure than a jar of homemade ghee.

How to Make Your Own Ghee

Ingredients:

  • 2 blocks of organic, unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. Place the butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Allow the butter to melt completely. Soon, you’ll hear a soft bubbling sound — this is the water content evaporating.
  3. Lower the heat slightly, but keep it high enough to maintain a gentle simmer.
  4. Over the next 20–30 minutes, you’ll notice a light froth on top and milk solids settling at the bottom. The ghee is ready when the liquid turns clear golden yellow and has a rich, nutty aroma.
  5. Let it cool slightly. Then carefully strain the liquid through a fine sieve or cheesecloth into a clean glass jar, leaving behind the solids.
  6. Allow it to cool completely before sealing the jar.

That’s it! You now have your own fresh, aromatic Ayurvedic ghee.

How to Use Ghee in Daily Life:

  • As a cooking medium (instead of oil or butter)
  • Drizzle over rice, soups, or steamed veggies
  • Use in Ayurvedic cleansing or detox routines
  • Add a teaspoon to warm milk before bed for better sleep
  • Massage into dry skin or use in oil-pulling rituals

Storage:

Ghee does not need refrigeration. Keep it in a clean, dry glass jar at room temperature. It lasts for months without spoiling if no water or food enters the jar.

Ghee is more than food — it is medicine, nourishment, and tradition in one golden spoonful.
Start making your own and feel the difference in your body and mind.
